I was fascinated by today’s picture at Bing so I did some research. Bing tells us that this was formed over 150 million years ago. But it’s just the kind of beautiful rock formation that gives us evidence the the Biblical account of the Great Flood is true.

Some scientists, and, apparently, the editors at Bing, will tell you that these kinds of rocks were formed by a little bit of water and a whole lot of time. But I believe the opposite is true, that they were formed by a whole lot of water and not nearly as much time. And God.

(Note: if you read this later than the day I posted it, you will see a different photo at Bing. Click on the arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of the photo to go back and see photos from previous days. If you hover your mouse cursor over certain parts of the photo, little captions appear with links where you can learn more. Bing is a site that shows spectacular photos and lets you search the Internet, but you can’t trust their information to always agree with the Bible.)

I just read another article that underscores the importance of understanding what the Bible tells us about the history of the earth.

Many secular scientists believe that the geologic processes that produced the earth’s current topography and geography were slow to change and took millions and millions of years. They deny the possibility that the Flood mentioned in the Bible was indeed a global flood just as the Bible says.

Think about the devastation caused by Katrina or from the tsumani that happened a few years ago in Asia. Those events were horrible, but the percentage of land affected was miniscule compared to the total land area of the earth.

The Bible tells us the Flood in Noah’s time was different:

They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.  The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. Genesis 7:19-20

This flood did many things. It wiped out all traces of what was there before. It re-drew the map of the world. Many scientists think that this was when the continents were formed, mountains were raised up, and canyons carved out. And you can see how this could be so if you imagine water covering the whole earth.

This is a key point that many people ignore when they try to claim that the earth’s surface tells us it’s been around for millions of years. Teach your children that Noah’s flood was a global flood and that the Bible tells us the truth about history.
